Hmm. This is a new question for me, but I would certainly not recommend anything later than I would for a surgical wound. S/p total knees are often placed in the pool (with Tegaderm over the wound) at 7 days s/p surgery. Usually, when people's steristrips fall off (14 days or so after surgery), they are free to get in a properly disinfected pool without any bio-occlusive dressing.
Some surgeons do not allow their patients in the water this early because of a fear of infection. These doctors allow them in once they are free to bathe (usually 30 days after surgery). To my knowledge, there has never been in instance of an infection due to swimming pool immersion, but it is not a completely resolved issue to some surgeons.
